Once you underst和 the rules 和 the theme for 国史日 和 have chosen your historical topic, it is time to choose how you want to present your work. But what are the categories? And how are they different?

A documentary should reflect your ability to use audiovisual equipment to communicate your topic’s significance. The documentary category will help you develop skills in using photographs, 电影, video, audio, 电脑, 以及图形演示. Your presentation should include primary source materials 和 also must be an original production. To produce a documentary, you must have access to equipment 和 be able to operate it.
For documentary software options, iMovie, WeVideo, 电影制作人, or Adobe are often favorites, but feel free to use any option that you like best.

An exhibit is a three-dimensional physical 和 visual representation of your historical argument, 研究证据, 和 interpretation of your topic’s significance in history.

A paper is a highly personal 和 individual effort, 和 if you prefer to work alone this may be the category for you. 纸s depend almost entirely on words to tell the story, 和 you can usually include more information in a paper than in some of the other categories. Various types of creative 写作 (for example, fictional diaries, poems, etc.) are permitted but must conform to all general 和 category rules.

A performance is a dramatic portrayal of your historical argument, 研究证据, 和 interpretation of your topic’s significance in history.
The performance category is the only one that is presented live. Developing a strong narrative that allows your subject to unfold in a dramatic 和 visually interesting way is important. 记忆, 排练, 和 refining your script is essential, so you should schedule time for this in addition to research, 写作, 服装, 和道具收集.

A website should reflect your ability to use website design software 和 computer technology to communicate your topic’s significance in history. To create an NHD website project, you must use NHDWebCentral®.
Important 2023 Announcement: For the 2023 contest season, we will be accepting NHD websites created on a school account in alternative platforms such as Google websites or Microsoft for the Massachusetts Regional 和 State contests. This is ONLY applicable to the Massachusetts competitions, 和 students who advance to Nationals will have to recreate their websites in NHDWebCentral if they wish to compete. Students 和 teachers must ensure that these sites can also be viewed by non-school accounts; if judges cannot open the website links, 无法判断.
